About Ad-Infer and Chess-EVAL

Ad-Infer and Chess-Eval were first used in 1979 for Ad-Infer and in 1982 for Chess-Eval.
Both names were copyrighted when they were first introduced.

Ad-Infer is the name of one of the first Artificial Intelligent Diagnosis tools in the field of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. It has been widely published in the scientific literature ( www.SleepEval.com or www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed).

Sleep-Eval is another Artificial Intelligent System that was created in 1992 and is currently used in the field of Sleep Medicine. It is an Expert System based on a Neural Network composed of three layers. The system is able to use the DSM-IV (American Psychiatric Association), the ICD-10 (10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases) and the ICSD (International Classification of Sleep Disorders).

Chess-Eval is an Artificial Intelligent Expert System specialized in the field of Chess. The program was written in Pascal in the early eighties and completed in C++ in 1991. ChessEval is not a strong game player, but it uses a large data base of all the classical Chess games.

The links between Neurology, Psychiatry and Computer Sciences are compelling, but understandable.
Mind games are interesting models that can help simulate the cognitive functions of our brain. The test of Turing is one of the most famous illustration: if a computer can convince a human being that he is communicating with another human being, the computer wins the test.
The first automates were only reproducing the appearance and motor ability of Humans, before becoming computers challenging the brain of their creators. Chess stands as a good example of this evolution. Chess was also a challenge for the world of Computer Sciences and the goal became the defeat of a world chess champion.

This model attracts many researchers in Neurosciences: without doubt, the computers are just another expression of the intelligence of our Brain. Computers are the first tools mimicking our intellectual skills. In few decades, the power of these artificial brains has increased considerably.
The paradox is coming from the comparison with our limited knowledge in the functioning and treatment of our brain: we know how to repair a computer, while we have still to learn more about how our brain works and how to repair it.
We desperately need to invest in our Brain, to find more resources, more support to help the multidisciplinary field of Neurosciences and to assist physicians in treating and saving the brain of thousands of people each year...
After all, the last land on Earth still to discover is the one inside of our head... Without doubt, the final Frontier...
